What to Expect on The Morning Train to Machu Picchu

  • The Morning Train to Machu Picchu experience starts with transportation from your hotel in Cusco’s Historic District to the train station. You will then board The 360° Machu Picchu Train, a train to the Machu Picchu Pueblo called Aguas Calientes.
  • The train route passes through the stunning, natural landscapes of the Sacred Valley.
  • Upon arrival in the Machu Picchu Pueblo, there will be time to pause, use the restroom, or freshen up prior to the ascent to the Inca ruins.
  • You will then board the comfortable and spacious Consettur bus with panoramic windows for a 35-40 minute ride to the Citadel of Machu Picchu.
  • After a short walk to the entrance, you will begin a guided tour of Machu Picchu, learning the history and mysteries of this sanctuary, one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World.”
  • The morning atmosphere adds refreshing energy to the ancient structures set in the breathtaking scenery.
  • Following the tour, you will have ample time to explore and eat lunch in the Machu Picchu Pueblo (at your own expense)
  • After lunch, you’ll board The 360° Machu Picchu Train once again for the return trip to Cusco.
  • Upon arrival, you will be transported to your hotel in Cusco’s Historic Center.

Itinerary

 

  • This tour begins in the early morning, around 4:30 a.m., where we will pick you up from your hotel in the Historical Center of Cusco and take you to our office on Av. El Sol to board the bus that will transport you to the train station in Ollantaytambo (the first part of our Bimodal service which consists of bus transportation followed by train).
  • Start of train journey: We depart from Ollantaytambo station to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) at around 7:20 a.m. on the panoramic train, The 360°, on Inca Rail's frequency 61. Enjoy stunning natural views for 1 and a half hours, the perfect beginning to the tour!
  • Upon arrival at Machu Picchu Pueblo, our staff will be waiting for you. Remember, you'll have time to organize only the essentials for your visit to the Machu Picchu citadel.
  • Transfer to the bus station: Approximately 30-40 minutes later, you'll walk through Machu Picchu pueblo accompanied by your guide, who will show you the location of recommended restaurants for your lunch. Then, you'll arrive at the bus station.
  • Transfer on Consettur bus: Once at the station, the general waiting time is 35 to 45 minutes. Subsequently, the bus journey lasts 30 to 40 minutes. Remember, upon arrival at the Machu Picchu citadel, the guide will organize the group and provide recommendations to ensure your visit is most satisfying.
  • Entrance to Machu Picchu: We'll begin the visit around 10:40 a.m. and it will last approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Enjoy the best part of the tour and discover the secret legends that our guide will reveal to you along the way as you explore the enigmatic constructions of the Inca culture!
  • Return on Consettur bus: After completing your exploration of the Machu Picchu citadel, our staff will guide you to the bus stop around 13:10 p.m. Depending on the number of people, there will be a waiting time (30-40 minutes). Subsequently, once aboard the bus, the journey to Machu Picchu pueblo will take 30 minutes, arriving approximately at 14:00 p.m.
  • Free time: There will be 1 and a half hours for you to enjoy the best of local gastronomy for lunch and explore Machu Picchu pueblo. We recommend that you start your transfer to Ollantaytambo train station at 15:45 p.m.
  • Return train journey: Boarding will be at 16:10 p.m. on the panoramic train, The 360°, towards Ollantaytambo and you will arrive at around 5:50 p.m. From this point, we will take care of returning you to your hotel by bus to the historic center of Cusco, thus concluding the tour.

  • Cancellation and rescheduling are only valid until 07 days prior to a booked trip without penalty. Otherwise, you are responsible for 100% of the cost. Changes and refunds exclude the value of the entrance to Machu Picchu Citadel since MINCUL (Ministry of Culture) does not allow it.
  • In case you need to reschedule, we recommend doing so with at least 1 month in advance, as tickets to the Citadel tend to sell out quickly.
  • Promotion valid to travel until December 31th, 2024.
  • Hotel pick-up is only available for clients located in Cusco’s historic center. If you are in accommodation outside this area, you must contact us to coordinate a meeting point so that you can come closer.
  • Tour start time: Between 04:20 to 04:30 hours (it is recommended to be ready at the pickup point 30 minutes in advance).
  • Passengers are responsible to arrive on time to the itinerary established by the tour package; otherwise, they may later join the tour by their own account (transportation) and refund will not apply for the service not used.
